Fellow Lacrosse Enthusiasts,

First of all…Happy New Year!   The US Lacrosse National Convention is just around the corner and soon enough, the season will be upon us.  I am looking forward to an exciting season and hope you are too.  The schedule for the HS is starting to firm up and it looks like there will be ample opportunity to officiate many games this year.  In an effort to reduce the number of Saturday games, the 2010 schedule includes more weekday games (Tuesday and Thursday).  The challenge, as always, will be to balance start times and daylight remaining with when we can leave work.  We will continue to monitor this as games are scheduled.

We are hoping to increase the number of officials we have working games this year.  This will allow greater flexibility and easier scheduling.  So….if you know someone who is interested please pass the invitation on to them.  Here is the general outline of instruction for new officials.  We need to cover about 15 hours worth of classroom training plus on-field work.  Starting the week of 18 Jan, I plan to hold class once a week.  I am waiting to confirm location and times, but here is the schedule I have requested:

21 Jan – 7:00pm – 9:30pm  New Officials Training I

28 Jan – 7:00pm – 9:30pm  New Officials Training II

4  Feb – 7:00pm – 9:30pm  New Officials Training III

11 Feb – 7:00pm – 9:30pm New Officials Training IV

17 Feb – 7:00pm – 9:30pm  New Officials Training V

*****These dates are not confirmed.*****

For returning officials….I will schedule a refresher class that should take about 4 hours or so and will be expected to be on a Saturday or Sunday in late Jan or Feb.  More details to follow.  If you cannot officiate this year….please let me know by 18 Jan 2010.

I will provide old materials free of charge.  While at the National Convention, I will have an opportunity to meet and discuss certification with the clinicians for District 7.  I expect current materials to be available at a charge of about $25 or so.  This will cover current mechanics manual, rule book, and first two Officials patches showing you have been certified by US Lacrosse.  Further details to follow.

If you know of any former college or HS players that are interested in officiating HS or youth lacrosse, please pass this email along.  If you know of officials from other sports who may be interested….pass this along.

Thanks for all of your support.  Look forward to seeing you in the classroom.  Bob
